Early on in their work, the Council recognized that meeting the goals of the Water for Life strategy would require the participation of water-using sectors in improving water conservation, efficiency and productivity (WCEP) in their operations.
The WCEP Sector Planning Project Team was formed in March 2007 to prepare a document that would guide the development and implementation of a series of sector plans addressing water use by each of the sectors. Building on the work of the Council's earlier WCEP Definitions Project Team, the team's objectives were set out in an approved Their work was guided by an approved Terms of Reference.
The team's final report, Recommendations for Water Conservation, Efficiency and Productivity Sector Planning was approved by Council in September, 2008. It contains:
- A framework for CEP sector planning;
- An annotated Table of Contents to guide participating sectors in creating their CEP sector plans;
- Recommendations for evaluating CEP work and maintaining accountability;
- Recommendations for encouraging sector participation in CEP planning; and
- Recommendations for implementing and measuring CEP progress.
