The Alberta Water Council will identify common initiatives and recommend collaboration where it is beneficial. Council will support initiatives and encourage co-ordination of the Watershed Stewardship Groups and the Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils. Council takes a provincial perspective in support of these agencies.
Watershed Stewardship Groups
These groups are made up of neighbours sharing information and taking action to protect and enhance their local watershed. They provide "on-the-ground" actions, promote best management practices, collaborate with land use managers, produce sub-basin reports, provide recommendations in local water management plans, provide input into Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils' activities and submit issues for the Alberta Water Council's consideration.
Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils
These multi-stakeholder councils do basin planning and evaluation in co-ordination with the Government of Alberta. They produce state of the basin reports; provide recommendations in watershed management plans; collaborate with land managers; provide "on-the-ground" actions; advise and support watershed stewardship groups and present issues to the Alberta Water Council.
Clean Air Strategic Alliance
The Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) is a sister organization to the Alberta Water Council. They are a consensus-based, multi-stakeholder partnership composed of representatives selected by industry, governments and non-government organizations. Stakeholders are committed to a collaborative approach to developing and applying a comprehensive air quality management system for all Albertans. All participants in the CASA model work towards a shared mission and vision. Where possible and appropriate, the Alberta Water Council and Clean Air Strategic Alliance work together to achieve common goals.
