Established in 2004, the Alberta Water Council is a multi-stakeholder partnership with 24 members from governments, industry, and non-government organizations. Its primary task is to monitor and steward implementation of the Alberta’s Water for Life strategy and to champion achievement of the strategy’s three outcomes of a safe, secure drinking water supply, healthy aquatic ecosystems, and reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy.
New! The NPS Pollution Project Team
At its June 2010 board meeting, the Council kicked off a new project team – the Non-Point Source Pollution Project Team. The objective of the team is to improve understanding and management of non-point source pollution. This project builds on two recommendations from the Council’s Healthy Aquatic Ecosystems team and is tasked with completing four key tasks set out in their Terms of Reference.

New! The MWA Project Team
At its June 2010 board meeting, the Council kicked off a second new project team – the Moving From Words to Actions Project Team. The objective of the team is to improve communication and coordination among the Water for Life partnerships by working together to identify shared strategic priorities that will meet the Water for Life strategy's three goals. Building on the previous work of the Council’s Shared Governance and Watershed Planning Framework team, this team is expected to complete 4 main tasks as identified in this team’s Terms of Reference.
