Welcome To Alberta Water Council

Established in 2004, the Alberta Water Council is a multi-stakeholder partnership with 24 members from governments, industry, and non-government organizations. Its primary task is to monitor and steward implementation of the Alberta’s Water for Life strategy and to champion achievement of the strategy’s three outcomes of a safe, secure drinking water supply, healthy aquatic ecosystems, and reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy.

The PEACH Project Team
On January 13th 2010, the Alberta Water Council released its report, Provincial Ecological Criteria for Healthy Aquatic Ecosystems to the public and media.  The report recommends seven science-based criteria that can be used to identify those areas that are significant to the maintenance of aquatic ecosystem health.  This work is foundational to advancing the Water for Life strategy's goal of healthy aquatic ecosystems.  For more information on this project, please visit the PEACH Project Team page.

Water Allocation Transfer System Review
On November 23rd, the Council released the report, Recommendations for Improving Alberta's Water Allocation Transfer System.  The report works within the Water Act to identify challenges and provide specific recommendations on how Alberta can improve its water allocation transfer system to better respond to seasonal and annual variations in water flow, increased demand on supply caused by community and economic growth, and the impacts of climate change.  For more information on this project please visit the WATSUP Team page.
